I'm building a 5ft high retaining wall, how deep should my foundation be? - building a concrete retaining wall

I use concrete blocks of concrete to build the wall.

It depends on where you live. If you live in an area where the annual freeze, you must build a sufficient depth to get in (or substantially) said that moves to freeze the wall down and turn useless over time - his attacks.

If you live in an area where there should be no frost per year, generally at least 1 / 3 higher than the wall obtained from the earth. In this case, 18-24 "should be sufficient.

Depending on where you live, you need to get your foundation, 30 cm deep. In those areas where the extreme cold, frozen ground could be exposed to increasing the base. I live in the south, and when I built my wall of concrete blocks, standing on a concrete base 24 "deep-set, it was little more than six feet. I was not worried about the frost.
